Provision

The Unit offers intensive speech and language therapy and teaching of language and early educational skills, the opportunity for signing to support communication, and a total approach to the development of communication skills.

The curriculum for each child is built around an individual educational plan, as each child has unique needs. A broad and balanced curriculum is provided, with regard both to the National Curriculum and to children's specific needs.

Provision includes:

  • 2-3 individual sessions per day developing speech, language and communication skills


  • small class groups with a high level of 1:1 teaching


  • Paget Gorman signing used throughout the Unit


  • Specialist teaching of literacy and numeracy skills


  • A developmental semantic curriculum leading to Key Stage 1 of the National curriculum


  • Weekly occupational therapy sessions
